Acrylonitrile - Introduction

INEOS Technologies' acrylonitrile technology, known in the industry as the SOHIO acrylonitrile process, is used in the manufacture of over 95 percent of the world's acrylonitrile. INEOS Technologies is the recognized world leader in acrylonitrile technology and sets the standard for product quality and the safe production and distribution of acrylonitrile and its co-products.

INEOS Technologies licenses both the acrylonitrile process technology and manufactures and markets the catalyst that is used in the acrylonitrile process.

INEOS is not only the most successful developer and licensor of acrylonitrile technology, but it is also the world’s largest manufacturer and merchant marketer of acrylonitrile.  With four wholly-owned, world-scale acrylonitrile sites (in Lima, Ohio; Green Lake, Texas; Köln, Germany; Teeside, U.K.) with extensive manufacturing expertise and commercial experience and presence in the international marketplace.  INEOS’ total acrylonitrile production capacity is approximately 1,300 ktpa. This marketing and production presence, coupled with the continuous improvements derived from an on-going commitment to the technology, has made INEOS the undisputed leader in all aspects of acrylonitrile.

Demonstrating the importance of the technology, it was designated the 11th National Historic Chemical Landmark by the American Chemical Society (http://acswebcontent.acs.org/landmarks/landmarks/soh/index.html).
