Business profile

INEOS's acrylonitrile technology, known in the industry as the SOHIO acrylonitrile process, is used in the manufacture of over 90 percent of the world's acrylonitrile. In 1996, this process, which involves the oxidation of propylene and ammonia to acrylonitrile in a fluid bed reactor, was designated the 11th National Historic Chemical Landmark by the American Chemical Society.

We continue to build on our scientific breakthroughs and successes through research and development. Our improvements include both process and catalyst refinements. Each refinement increases product yield and offers improved production economies. Looking to the future, INEOS continues to invest in the development of a new acrylonitrile production process based on cost-advantaged feedstocks and catalysts.
